  1. What are the duties of a safety officer?
    • Prepare tool box talk
    • Prepare monthly statistics
    • Prepare the checklist
    • Accident reports
    • Management meetings
    • Arrange the safety classes/training
    • Arrange monthly safety bulletin
    • Inspection of fire extinguisher
    • Arrange first aid training classes
    • Arrange safety competitions like quiz, slogan, poster competitions exhibition etc.
  2. What are the responsibilities of an HSE Officer?
    • The HSE Officer acts an advisory capacity to the management and supervision with regards Health and Safety Environment,
    • He is to monitor and ensure that the activities are being performed with the acceptable safety norms.
    • Helping supervisors to identify the hazardous and unsafe conditions and ensuring rectifications.
    • Conducting tool box meeting, Supervisors safety meeting, conducting training in various topics, conducting safety incentive program, conducting safety auditing/inspection.
    • Taking disciplinary action against the violations.
    • Conducting risk assessment and JSA, pre task meeting and all other project related safety requirements.
    • Keep track record all incidents at site.
    • He is to investigate hazards and dangerous occurrences, examine the cause of accident, carry out safety inspection on site and what remedial steps/action has been under taken.
  3. Upon arrival on site as safety officer what will be your checks ?
    • Site Inspection
      • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Ensure all workers are wearing required PPE, such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.
      • Hazardous Areas: Identify potential hazardous areas, such as excavations, scaffolding, or electrical equipment, and ensure proper controls are in place.
      • Equipment and Machinery: Check that equipment and machinery are properly maintained, inspected, and operated.
    • Documentation and Records
      • Safety Manual: Review the site-specific safety manual and ensure it is up-to-date and accessible to all workers.
      • Training Records: Verify that all workers have received necessary safety training and certifications.
      • Incident Reports: Review incident reports and near-miss incidents to identify trends and areas for improvement.
    • Worker Awareness
      • Safety Briefings: Ensure that workers have received safety briefings and are aware of potential hazards and emergency procedures.
      • Worker Interviews: Conduct interviews with workers to gauge their understanding of safety procedures and identify potential concerns.
    • Site Conditions
      • Housekeeping: Ensure the site is clean and organized, with no tripping hazards or obstructions.
      • Lighting and Ventilation: Verify that the site has adequate lighting and ventilation.
      • Fire Extinguishers: Check that fire extinguishers are accessible, inspected, and functional.
    • Emergency Preparedness
      • Emergency Response Plan: Review the site-specific emergency response plan and ensure it is up-to-date and communicated to all workers.
      • First Aid Kits: Verify that first aid kits are available, stocked, and easily accessible.
      • Emergency Contact Information: Ensure that emergency contact information is readily available and communicated to all workers.
