- What are Hand tools?
- Hand tools are non-powered tools which are used manually. Such as Shovel, pick axe, screw driver, painting brush, Hand saw, Hack saw, pipe wrench, spanner etc.
- What are Power tools?
- Power tools are operated by external force such as electrical power tools like Angle Grinder, Portable and fixed electrical saw, Power drill etc.
- Pneumatic tools which are powered by compressed air such as Pneumatic drill, Jack hammer.
- Hydraulic tools such as jacks.
- Powder actuated tools such as nail gun.
- What is dead man switch?
- A switch that is designed to be activated or deactivated if worker becomes incapable due to loss of consciousness or any other abnormality.
- (It automatically shut off when trigger is released and stop grinder).
- Trigger lock switch shall not be used in angle grinder and sand blasting trigger.
- What is RPM?
- RPM is abbreviated form of Revolution/ Rotation per minute is a unit which shows how many time an object completes a cycle in a minute.
- Which RPM shall be higher, wheel/disk or grinder?
- Abrasive wheel capacity/ RPM should be greater or equal to grinder.
- If disk capacity is less than grinder, wheel/disk may explode/damage and result in accident.
- What are the hazards associated with angle Grinder usage?
- Fire, Electric shock, Noise, Ergonomics hazard (Improper posture) dust and fumes etc.
- What is angle Grinder used for?
- Angle grinder is used for cutting, grinding, buffing and polishing.
- Explain how to use angle Grinder safely?
- Obtain hot work permit.
- Grinder should be inspected.
- Use the right disk for the right job(Cutting disk shall not be used for grinding).
- Before use inspect disks for defects, cracks and wear.
- Do not use defective disk/wheel.
- Disk RPM shall be greater than grinder.
- Do not remove safety guard mounted on grinder to prevent flying particles.
- Use proper PPE such as face shield, safety glasses, apron, FRC, leather gloves and respiratory protection (as needed).
- Remove combustible and flammable materials nearby.
- No body shall stand in line of fire.
- Operator/ worker should be trained in grinder usage.
- Do not leave grinder unattended.
- Ensure dead man switch is in place and functional.
- Trigger lock is prohibited.
- Always use two hands, keep hands away from rotating wheel.
- Do not wear loose clothes which may entangle in wheel.
- How to care and maintenance of hand tools?
- Tools must be kept clean and free from corrosion
- Keep metal parts lightly oiled
- Remove burrs from edges of tools and heads of chisels.
- Tools which are not in used must be stored separately
- A good worker regularly inspects his tools
- Do not use tools without handles
- How to prevent accidents of power tools?
- The operators should wear face shields or safety glasses
- Power tools should be placed in the store room after use
- Power tools should have protected by guards
- Pneumatic hoses or electric cables of power tools should not pass through passage ways.
- The electrical power tools should be properly earthed
- Never horse play with hose of pneumatic tools
- What are the causes of accidents of hard tools?
- Due to wrong way using of tools.
- Due to defective condition of tools
- Due to failure of using right tools for right job
- Due to wrong way of carrying tools
- Due to strong of tools un safety

- Proper wheel shall be used as per the grinding M/C’s specification
- All the grinding M/C’s shall be used with wheel guard
- Grinding cables shall not mingle with welding cables
- All the cables shall be protected from damage
- Provide face shield with safety helmet
- Never use fracture wheel
- Excessive tighten of maintaining is dangerous
- All guards should be in position before the machine operated
- The speed of the grinding should match in the speeds of the grinding machines
- Only skill person should be handle this work
- Testing of wheel is necessary
