- When do we require fall protection?
- Each person who could fall from 1.8m shall be protected from falling by fall protection.
- What are the four methods of fall protection?
- All elimination.
- Fall prevention (Guardrail system, Net system, Self-retractable lifeline).
- Personal fall arrest system (Full body harness).
- Administrative controls (Signage, training, safety monitoring system, warning line etc).
- What is Guardrail system?
- Barriers erected to prevent workers from fall to lower level.
- What are three main parts of Guardrail system?
- Top rail, mid rail and toe board and guardrail system must be capable of supporting 200 lbs (91 kg).
- What is Anchorage point?
- A secure point of attachment for lifeline, lanyard or deceleration devices (Self retractable lifeline) and should be capable of safely supporting 5000 lbs (2268 kg) per person attached.
- What is life line and 2 types of lifeline?
- Lifeline works as an extension to anchorage system which allow workers to move up and down (vertical lifeline) back and forward (horizontal lifeline) across the area.
- Two types of lifeline are vertical lifeline and horizontal lifeline.
- What is PFAS?
- PFAS means Personal Fall Arrest System is a system used to safely stop a worker who is falling from a working level.
- It consists of anchorage, connectors, full body harness, lanyard, deceleration device, lifeline etc.
- What is Connector?
- A device which is used to connect parts of the fall arrest system such as carabineer.
- What is safety monitoring system?
- A system in which a competent personal is deployed to recognize and warn workers against fall hazards.
- When do we need full body harness and what should be the minimum breaking strength of full body harness.?
- While working at or above 6 feet from ground level and full body harness should safely support 5000 lbs (2268 kg). Full body harness should comply to ANSI Z 359.1
- What is Passive Fall Protection and Active Fall Protection?
- Passive fall protection means a system that is non dynamic, stationary, adapt or change when in or out and prevent personal from fall.
- Such as Guardrail system, handrail, net system, fabrication system.
- Active fall protection means a system that is dynamic, need adjustment and activation participation.
- Active fall protection consists of 2 parts.
- Both system is used to secure personal to an anchorage point with lanyard.
- Fall restrain system: Fall restraint system help a worker to prevent fall. Such as using automatic self-retractable lifeline.
- Fall restraint system is preferred over fall arrest system.
- Fall arrest system: Fall arrest system protect the personnel after they fall. It is used to stop the fall before the personnel hit the surface (ground).
